The Suffolk Art Gallery and Suffolk Art League invite you to visit our invitational exhibit, "Threaded: An Invitational Exhibit Showcasing Fiber and Textile Art." Fiber techniques including hook rugs, yarn-bombing, natural dyes, and embroidery will be on display from an eclectic group of artists including: Cheri Babler, Emily Badalamente, Kelsey Brown, Maizelle Brown, Peggy Earl, Asa Jackson, Tanya Rich, and Katherine Wassink.

Behind Suffolk City Hall
Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for a Bike at Lunch departing from 400 W. Market Street behind the City Hall building. The bike ride will be led by Suffolk Police Department and will depart at 12:30pm. Afterwards, enjoy lunch from a food truck (located outside Suffolk City Hall) from 11:30am – 1:30pm.

The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This three-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. See Suffolk through the eyes of years gone by! Suffolk’s rich heritage dates back to the early 17th century, when Captain John Smith first encountered the Nansemond Indians on the Nansemond River. Even now, you can trace Suffolk’s legacy through our historic homes and neighborhoods, churches and Virginia Civil War Trails. Guided by a Suffolk historian, you meet the people and places that made Suffolk the city it is today. Highlights of this windshield tour include Cedar Hill Cemetery, Riddick’s Folly House Museum, Constant’s Wharf, College Court and Suffolk’s Historic Lakeside neighborhood.

An official Virginia Civil War Trail site, Cedar Hill Cemetery has long been an attraction for history buffs and even walking groups. The Suffolk Division of Tourism offers a guided stroll through the pleasant 32-acre cemetery, rich in history and natural beauty. The 75-minute daytime tour will offer unique insights into Suffolk’s heritage as tour goers traverse the cedar-lined terrain dotted with timeworn headstones. A hair-raising encounter with the spirited side of Suffolk. Follow a costumed guide through the shadows of historic Main Street discovering stories, legends and "unexplained occurrences" by lantern light. Tales of unsolved mysteries and unresolved affairs abound throughout Suffolk's historically hip Ghost Walk. Reservations required.
Join us for the season kickoff of the Farmers Market at Bridgeport on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 10am-2pm! Our seasonal markets will run every 2nd and 4th Sunday from May 22 to November 13.
There will be live music by Cara-Lyn and Harley on the stage from 10:30am-1:30pm and Starjayz BBQ food truck will be serving up a variety of southern favorites. This year, there will be a “walkable” market with vendors spanning from the plaza and down the main sidewalk of Bridgeport Way. There will be a variety of local farmers, bakers, crafters, artisans, and more!
Kayak Ramp at Constant's Wharf Park & Marina
Located on the Nansemond River, John Constant founded this important trading center and village known as Constant's Warehouse, which would become the Town of Suffolk in 1742. Guided kayak excursions are facilitated by a water adventures outfitter with years of experience. All equipment is included with registration fee. Sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable clothing recommended. Participants must be at least 10 years of age or older; anyone 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. You are encouraged to bring a snack and bottled water.
