    See Suffolk through the eyes of years gone by. Suffolk’s rich heritage dates back to the early 17th century, when Captain John Smith first encountered the Nansemond Indians on the Nansemond River. Even now, you can trace Suffolk’s legacy through our historic homes and neighborhoods, churches and Virginia Civil War Trails. Guided by a Suffolk historian, you meet the people and places that made Suffolk the city it is today. Highlights of this windshield tour include Cedar Hill Cemetery, Riddick’s Folly House Museum, Constant’s Wharf, College Court and Suffolk’s Historic Lakeside neighborhood.

  2. Yappy Hour

    October 27, 2017, 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Lake Meade Dog Park

    Dress up with your pup and come out to Lake Meade Dog Park for our annual Yappy Hour and Doggy Howl-oween Costume Contest! Join Suffolk Parks and Recreation on Friday, October 27, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. for a laid back evening of fun and socializing in the autumn air. Enjoy drinks and music while you and your dog meet new friends. Come with a creative costume idea, and the best dressed dogs will go home with a prize! This event is free and open to all dog park members. Dog park membership can be acquired at the Parks and Recreation Administrative Building (located at 134 S. 6th St.) or during office hours at the Lake Meade Park office (located at 201 Holly Lawn Parkway). All dogs must be on a leash and up to date on all vaccines to attend.

  5. Cedar Hill Cemetery Stroll

    An official Virginia Civil War Trail site, Cedar Hill Cemetery has long been an attraction for history buffs and even walking groups. The Suffolk Division of Tourism offers a guided stroll through the pleasant 32-acre cemetery, rich in history and natural beauty. The 90-minute daytime tour will offer unique insights into Suffolk’s heritage as tour goers traverse the cedar-lined terrain dotted with timeworn headstones. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. Call the Suffolk Visitor Center at 757.514.4130 to reserve your spot. Special rates are available for groups of 12 or more.

  7. Nansemond River Pilot Club's 12th Annual Fall Fair

    Get started on your Christmas shopping at the Nansemond River Pilot Club's 12th Annual Fall Fair. We will have craft vendors with items such as handmade jams and jellies, jewelry, artisan soaps, clothing, glassware, purses, home décor and more! Plus, there will be direct sales vendors, baked goods, Brunswick stew, and door prize raffles! Free admission. This is a fundraising event. All proceeds benefit organizations in our community.

    Bring your little goblins and ghouls to the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum on Saturday, October 28, 2017, for Touch a Truck, Train & Trick or Treat! The event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m., rain or shine. Enjoy food, candy, games, trucks, trains and more! Children can see, touch, and explore their favorite big trucks and vehicles. It is a one-day interactive event that also gives children the opportunity to meet the men and women that serve, protect and build our community. Vehicles on display include construction trucks, emergency vehicles, tractor trailers, and utility trucks. BE SURE TO WEAR YOUR COSTUMES AND BRING YOUR OWN TRICK-OR-TREAT BAGS! Tickets are $5 each or 4 for $15.

  12. Great Dismal Swamp Safari

    The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This four-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour.
