Exhibit: In Plein Site

InPleinSite_NewsFlash

The works featured in this exhibit are the result of a day-long plein air painting adventure on Saturday, May 5, 2018, throughout Downtown Suffolk. The day of painting will culminate in a Crititique and Wet Paint Sale reception from 4:30-6:30pm at the Suffolk Center. The "People's Choice Award" will be presented at that time. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 17, from 5:30-7:30pm. Special Thanks to Event/Exhibit Co-Chairs, Sandy Waters and Barbara Harris.

Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. Their desire to paint light and its changing, ephemeral qualities, coupled with the creation of transportable paint tubes and the box easel—the precursor to the plein air easels of today—allowed artists the freedom to paint "en plein air," which is the French expression for "in the open air." --www.artistdaily.com
