Suffolk Tourism is partnering with the Suffolk Public Library for a summertime “Storytime at the Station” series. This fun, interactive storytelling program is geared toward children ages three to seven. Storytime at the Station will be conducted on the porch of the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum at 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays, June 23, July 21, and August 18. Blankets or beach towels for comfortable seating are welcome. Each month a different book will be read followed by a themed craft and the opportunity to explore the museum (children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian). Storytime at the Station is free and open to the public. Space is limited and reservations are encouraged. For information or to make reservations, contact the Seaboard Station Railroad Museum at 757.514.4135, or VisitSuffolk@suffolkva.us.
The Seaboard Station Railroad Museum is located at 326 North Main Street in downtown historic Suffolk, Virginia. Originally the building, built in 1885, operated as a passenger station until 1968 and continued as a freight station through the 1980s. After years of sitting vacant and suffering a nearly devastating fire, the depot fell into a state of disrepair. Completely restored to its original stately grandeur by the Suffolk-Nansemond Historical Society, the museum stands as one of Suffolk’s most beautiful and beloved landmarks. The Seaboard Station Railroad Museum is operated by Suffolk Tourism and is open daily, 10am-5pm. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.
