The Suffolk Center presents the work of Norfolk Photographer, Glen McClure in “Near and Far, Faces and Places.” The self-taught photo-artist McClure presents insightful portraits of the folks of Tidewater as they move through their daily life and work places. Also an accomplished landscape photographer, McClure will display photographs of moving unpopulated landscapes and work from his travels throughout Scotland and Ireland.

The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This four-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. An open mic night dedicated to the late and great Charles Bukowski! Guests are invited to come out to OnePast7 and read some of their favorite Bukowski writings, perform their own works, or just enjoy the evening. Participation is not required. There will also be a movie showing of Factotum (2005), libations, and prize giveaways. Ages 18 and up. You do not need to be a library member to attend.

Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for an evening night hike through Lone Star Lakes to listen for those mysterious sounds you may hear in the evenings. From the Great Horned Owl to the elusive Bob Cat, there are many local animals that can make some frightening sounds in the dark. We will meet at Lone Star Lakes' Butler Lake, which is just inside the park (making a right at the fork) at 6:00pm.
