    This spring, Tidewater Reads will celebrate the literary works of Kwame Alexander. Suffolk Art League and Suffolk Art Gallery are again participating in this regional literary collaborative by inviting artists to read Kwame's work and be inspired to create artwork. The exhibit will be held May 4-June 8, 2018, at the Suffolk Art Gallery.

  2. Exhibit: In Plein Site

    In Plein Site is a must-see exhibit that embraces the spontaneity of plein air painting and ability of artists to capture the essence of downtown Suffolk on canvas. The works featured in this exhibit are the result of a day-long plein air painting adventure on Saturday, May 5, 2018, throughout Downtown Suffolk. The day of painting will culminate in a Crititique and Wet Paint Sale reception from 4:30-6:30pm at the Suffolk Center. The "People's Choice Award" will be presented at that time.   3. Bennett's Creek 5K Run-Walk / 1 Mile Walk

    May 12, 2018, 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ Bennett's Creek Park

    Celebrate the warm weather by coming out to Bennett's Creek Park in Northern Suffolk and join the fun! All participants still get a finisher medal! Events are a 5K Run/Walk and a 1 Mile Fun Walk. Plan on sticking around after the event for the prize drawings. Must be present to win; all ages eligible. This will be an overall timed event! Timing is for not individual participant times. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Online registration is available until Friday, May 11 at the website; after that, registration may be made on-site. There is no guarantee that registrants will get a T-shirt after April 28.

  4. 10th Annual Shake, Rattle & Roll Spring Car Show

    May 12, 2018, 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM @ Main Street in Historic Downtown

    This festive Main Street event honors the racers, records and fans of the ol' quarter-mile concrete track at Suffolk Airport. Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. and concludes at 10am. The show begins is from 10am to 3pm, with awards presented at 2pm. Live music, food, vendors, all in the historic Main Street corridor of Downtown Suffolk. Advance Registration Discount: $20 before 4/12/18. $25 after 4/12. First 200 registrants receive: VIP Reception (on 5/11/18), Dash Plaque, Commemorative Gift and Goodie Bag.   5. Drive In Movie in the Park: The Incredibles

    May 12, 2018, 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM @ Bennett's Creek Park

    It's time for the Spring Drive In Movie in the Park! On Saturday, May 12, 2018, Bennett's Creek Park will transform into a Drive In Movie Theater, complete with two screens. Stay comfy in your car or bring your lawn chairs and blankets and get the best seat in the park to watch the 2004 animated favorite, The Incredibles. Two full concession areas will be available with food and treats. Pets are welcome and must be on a leash when outside of your vehicle. The park will open at 6pm for parking and fun activities for the children, to include games, crafts, and bounce houses at the Park and Play. The movie will start at approximately 8:15pm. Haven't seen The Incredibles yet? A family of undercover superheroes, while trying to live the quiet suburban life, are forced into action to save the world. With vocal talent from Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Samuel L. Jackson, and Jason Lee, this movie is rated PG and has a running time of 115 minutes.
