    In Plein Site is a must-see exhibit that embraces the spontaneity of plein air painting and ability of artists to capture the essence of downtown Suffolk on canvas. The works featured in this exhibit are the result of a day-long plein air painting adventure on Saturday, May 5, 2018, throughout Downtown Suffolk. The day of painting will culminate in a Crititique and Wet Paint Sale reception from 4:30-6:30pm at the Suffolk Center. The "People's Choice Award" will be presented at that time. Special Thanks to Event/Exhibit Co-Chairs, Sandy Waters and Barbara Harris

  2. Suffolk Art League's Annual Open Members Show

    June 19, 2018, 10:00 AM - July 20, 2018, 5:00 PM @ Suffolk Art Gallery

    This open show features works by current members of the Suffolk Art League. These artists work in a wide variety of art mediums and styles and represent most of the Hampton Roads area. The Opening Reception is Tuesday, June 19, from 5:30-7:30pm. The reception is free and open to the public.

  3. Great Dismal Swamp Safari

    June 30, 2018, 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM @ Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge

    The Great Dismal Swamp is anything but dismal. The narrated Swamp Safari, one of Suffolk’s most popular attractions, fills up quickly. This four-hour tour is led by a biologist specializing is the unique habitat of the Great Dismal. Learn about the history, lore, vegetation and wildlife with this adventure that includes a brief walk to Lake Drummond. Sunscreen, insect repellent, comfortable clothes and shoes are recommended. A small snack and beverage is provided. This tour is not recommended for very small children. Reservations are required and cancellations are expected no less than 48 hours prior to scheduled tour. Call the Suffolk Visitor Center at 757.514.4130 to reserve your spot.

  4. Pre-4th of July Cookout

    June 30, 2018, 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM @ Morgan Memorial Library

    Celebrate your 4th of July early with Suffolk Public Library! Bring your friends and family out to this FREE event for food, fun, and festivities. **Food is first come first served and a meal ticket will be distributed upon arrival. Additional parking can be found across the street behind City Hall. We're also collecting donations at this event to support ForKids, a local organization. Suggested donations include nonperishable food, hand sanitizer and feminine hygiene products.

  5. Voices in the Dark

    June 30, 2018, 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Lone Star Lakes - Butler Lake

    Join Suffolk Parks & Recreation for an evening night hike through Lone Star Lakes to listen for those mysterious sounds you may hear in the evenings. From the Great Horned Owl to the elusive Bob Cat, there are many local animals that can make some frightening sounds in the dark. We will meet at Lone Star Lakes' Butler Lake, which is just inside the park (making a right at the fork) at 7:00pm. Call Christian Prohaska if you have any questions. Ages 8+.
