  1. "come as you are / every picture tells a story": One-Person Exhibit by Barbara Hennig-Loomis

    July 28, 2018, 10:00 AM - August 24, 2018, 5:00 PM @ Suffolk Art Gallery

Barbara Hennig-Loomis was the winner of the Suffolk Art League's 2017 Annual Juried Exhibition. As part of her award, she received the opportunity to present a one-person show. As a complement to Hennig-Loomis' work, there is a group show by Hampton Roads women artists who also work with the human figure. "The Ladies of the Club" will also be on display through August 24. Each of these artists approach the figure in very unique ways, from impressionistic portraiture to resin and polymer clay sculptures. Each artist has worked to capture their subjects at a particular point in time, real or imagined. The artists included in this exhibit are Leigh Babcock, Christy Frederick, Ivy Garrenton, Christine Harris, Dianne Hottenstein, Devi Anne Moore, Julie Stanton, Shara Wertz, and Jenny Windsor.

  2. American Girl Program: "Meet Nanea Mitchell"

    July 28, 2018, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM @ Riddick's Folly House Museum

Meet Nanea Mitchell! Nanea is a brave and determined girl growing up in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1941, just as Japan attacks Pearl Harbor and America enters World War Two. In the first confusing days after the bombing, Nanea copes with missing friends and family members, rumors of additional attacks, and drastic changes to her island way of life. As war wears on, her efforts to help her friends and neighbors are all driven by her spirit of aloha: the understanding that everyone is connected and that joy and pain are shared. There will be 3 sittings: 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm. We will be giving away a Nanea doll to one of the girls that attends. Space is limited and reservations are required. Donations welcome. Ages 5 and up are welcome. Call for reservations at 757.934.0822 or email, beginning 14 days before the event.
